Jaden
Jayden’s Special Day Meridian, Idaho
June 2, 2007
The Racing for Smiles of the Northwest Program took Jaden to Meridian Speedway Friday Night for the ground pounding action of Super Modified racing.
Jaden, a seven year old boy suffering with Cystic Fibrous, loves auto racing and could not wait to meet all the drivers.
Jaden first meet Doyle Hartman and Rick Andrews, from the Southern Idaho Legend Car Series. This series is a huge supporter of the RFS-Nw and their cars are a perfect fit with our kids.
Doyle and Rick gave Jaden a special tour of the Legend pit area introducing him to all the drivers and allowing him the opportunity to choose any car he wanted sit in.
Jaden chose the #27 car belonging to Ed “Mr. Ed” Sonius, who I think had just as much fun as Jaden.
After his tour of the Legends it was then time to meet the drivers of the nights feature, the Super Modified and Sprint car drivers.
All the drivers took time out of their race preparations to meet Jaden, sign his shirt, and answer his questions, some drivers even gave him their hero cards.
After the trophy Dashes Jaden took a ride in the pace car to the start finish line where he was introduced to the fans and presented the trophy dash winners with their hardware.
After the heat races Jaden took another ride in the pace car as he led the legend cars out for their main event.
The pace car stopped at the start finish line and Jaden told the crowd what a great time he was having.
Doris Adams, Dot’s Crafts, donated a quilt from squares singed by several NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series and Nextel Cup Series drivers.
This year’s comeback driver, 9th place finisher of the Indianapolis 500 and RFS-Nw professional Motorsports Advisor, Davey Hamilton, also placed his John Hancock on the quilt this week. Jaden pulled the winning ticket standing in front of the Legend cars lined up to start the main. Steve Anderson was the winner and Jaden and Doris presented him with the quilt.
Ron Hayes, RFS-Nw President, said “I want to thank all the fans, drivers and crew who donated to the RFS-Nw, all proceeds help to fund future events”.
